We offer various levels of third-party checks to verify design compliance with project specifications and standards. Third-Party Checks can include the following:
Category III Checks/Independent Design Reviews: We conduct independent analysis and design calculations, review design drawings, reconcile comments with the design engineer, and submit authenticated calculations and a check certificate. During the initial review or detailed check, we identify potential value savings for the client and designer's consideration.
EOR Services for Supplier Equipment: We perform thorough analysis and design checks on the structural aspects of out-of-province supplier equipment. This ensures compliance with project standards, including WCB requirements. We review and modify drawings as needed, then submit authenticated drawings and calculations.
EGBC Independent Review of Structural Designs: We provide a BC P.Eng to review the design at various stages of development as per EGBC requirements, resolve comments with the EOR, and provide a signoff.
EOR Services for Supplier Products / Equipment
These services involve assuming the Engineer of Record (EOR) role in the province for supplier products and equipment designed, fabricated, and manufactured out-of-province. This can include products such as bearings, expansion joints, and maintenance gantries for permanent applications, or construction equipment like jump forms, lifters, and temporary falsework.
The scope encompasses performing an independent analysis and design calculations according to project-specific standards to ensure structural members and connections comply. We review supplier drawings and collaborate with the supplier to make necessary modifications. We also address any review comments from the owner's or province's engineer. A BC professional engineer authenticates the final set of drawings and calculations.
The scope also includes field reviews of the installed products or equipment, sometimes involving load tests as per performance specifications. Here are some of our projects showcasing these services on the New Pattullo Bridge Project:
Permanent Bearings: Working on behalf of supplier Mageba, we completed independent design calculations, reviewed drawings, and authenticated permanent bearings. These include lead rubber (LRB) and elastomeric bearings for structures—main cable-stayed bridge, south approach, and Highway 17 ramp. Our scope also included checking and stamping scaled bearing prototypes, reviewing test protocols and corrosion protection schemes. Additionally, we addressed review comments from the owner's engineer and the bridge designer.
Maintenance Gantry: Working on behalf of supplier Rubrica Engineering, we completed an independent analysis and check of the structural aspects of the permanent gantry to aid in the ongoing inspection and maintenance of the cable-stayed bridge. This included reviewing and stamping the gantry drawings as per the project requirements and performance specifications.
Specialized Falsework: Working on behalf of supplier ULMA, we completed independent design calculations, reviewed drawings, and authenticated documentation for falsework system used for the construction of the cable stayed tower cross beams. We also designed friction brackets anchored to the tower legs to support the falsework. The analysis for load effects on the falsework included progressive hardening of the cross-beam casted in stages. Additionally, we addressed review comments from the owner's engineer and the bridge designer.
